Downstream application market of lithium-ion batteries in May 2022: The power market took the lead in recovering, and digital consumption continued to be weak.

 

The impact of the epidemic on the new energy industry chain in May still exists, and the feedback of end market demand is mixed. The production and sales of new energy vehicles recovered well, and the market penetration rate reached 24.0% in a single month, driving the recovery of power battery installed capacity. The energy storage market continues to recover since the March lows of demand. The market for digital consumption, power tools and other applications continued to be weak.

 

According to the data of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), in May 2022, the domestic sales of Electric Vehicles were 447,000 units, an increase of 1.1 times year-on-year; of which the sales of pure electric vehicles were 347,000 units, an increase of 93.9% year-on-year; Plug-in hybrid vehicles sold 100,000 units, up 1.6 times year-on-year. From January to May, the cumulative sales of Electric Vehicles were 2.003 million units, an increase of 1.1 times year-on-year.

 

 

According to the China Automobile Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA), in May 2022, China's power battery loading volume totaled 18.6GWh, up 90.3% year-on-year. The installed capacity of ternary batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries was 8.3GWh and 10.2GWh respectively, up 59.0% and 126.5% year-on-year, respectively.

 

 

According to ICCsino Database statistics, the domestic energy storage battery production in May 2022 was 5.38Gwh, an increase of 30.7% year-on-year and 5.3% month-on-month. From January to May, the cumulative output of domestic energy storage batteries was 25.82Gwh, an increase of 38.0% year-on-year.

 

 

 

According to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), in May 2022, the domestic market shipments of 20.805 million units, down 9.4% year-on-year, of which 5G mobile phones were 17.739 million units, an increase of 6.0% year-on-year, accounting for 85.3% of mobile phone shipments in the same period. From January to May 2022, the overall shipment of mobile phones in the domestic market totaled 108 million units, down 27.1% year-on-year.

 

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in May 2022, the domestic output of electric portable tools was 17.194 million units, down 25.4% year-on-year; From January to May, the cumulative production reached 84.692 million units, down 19.9% year-on-year.

 

Recently, with the acceleration of the pace of resumption of work and production in Shanghai, the operation of Tesla, SAIC and other OEMs has improved significantly, and the power market is expected to continue the high growth trend this month. In terms of energy storage, household energy storage and electric energy storage are the relatively strong segments of the sector at present, and the demand from downstream customers at home and abroad is strong, and it is expected that there is still room for volume around the third quarter. In terms of mobile phones, the number of new models launched continued to decrease year-on-year, and due to the impact of the epidemic, economy, international situation and other aspects, the shipment situation is expected to remain low in the short term. In the field of two-wheelers, with the improvement of epidemic control, the demand for power exchange such as takeaway and express delivery has increased, and some production lines of battery companies have resumed production, but the operating rate is still low...
