Samsung SDI will supply cylindrical battery cells to Rivian, a U.S. electric vehicle startup.
The company will supply 2170 battery cells for the R1T, an electric pickup truck, and the R1S, an electric sport utility vehicle (SUV), which are scheduled to be rolled out within this year.
The 2170 battery cell is a cylindrical product with a diameter of 21 mm and a length of 70 mm. It is the same as those used for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.
Samsung SDI will supply three types of batteries, including 180 kWh batteries that enable an electric vehicle to run about 660 km on a single charge.
