SKI China Battery Factory Completed, Capacity 7.5GWH

SK Innovation said on December 5 that the company has established the first electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in China. SK Innovation said that NCM powered batteries supply is expected to begin in early 2020 in Chinese factory.

SK Innovation's total power battery capacity has increased to 12.2GWh because it currently has a 4.7GWh capacity South Korea. SK Innovation also expects to build a 7.5GWh battery plant in Hungary in the near future.

 

 
Panasonic does not rule out supplying batteries to Tesla Shanghai plant in the future


Takashi Motomoto, president of Panasonic China Northeast Asia, Panasonic has three battery factories in China, of which the Suzhou and Wuxi factories are lithium ion batteries, and the Dalian factory is specialized in power batteries. "The Dalian plant is very huge, with an investment of about 200 billion yen. The first phase has been produced, the second phase has just been put into production, and the third phase is being planned. It will not be ruled out that a battery factory in China will be supplied to Tesla."

 
LG, GM to Spend $2.3 Billion on Venture to Make Electric-Car Batteries


GM chairman and CEO Mary Barra said Thursday morning that the automaker is forming a joint venture with LG Chem to mass produce battery cells for its electric vehicles, a portfolio that will include a new battery-electric truck coming in the fall of 2021.
 

LG, GM said they will invest up to a total of $2.3 billion into the new joint venture and will establish a battery cell assembly plant on a greenfield manufacturing site in the Lordstown area of Northeast Ohio that will create more than 1,100 new jobs. Groundbreaking is expected to take place in mid-2020.

Mercedes-Benz's new plant in Thailand

According to foreign media reports, the Mercedes-Benz plant has produced plug-in hybrid vehicle batteries in Bangkok, Thailand. The new battery plant covers an area of 50,000 square meters.

In addition, the existing local automobile production plant has been expanded. Mercedes-Benz and local partners Thonburi Auto Assembly Plant (TAAP) and Thonburi Energy Storage System (TESM) have invested more than 100 million Euros to expand the plant and build a battery plant.

Mercedes-Benz said that in addition to meeting local production needs in Thailand, the plant will also export to other markets.

In total, the plant will create more than 300 jobs, of which 100 will be battery production jobs.
