On the price side, coal-based needle coke are largely quoted at 32,000-33,000 yuan/mt, petroleum-based needle coke are 35,000-37,000 yuan/mt.
Specifically, Jinzhou Petrochemical operates at normal pace this month, with output dropping 500 tons to reach 2,500 tons; there are no supply of green coke at the moment. Sales person indicated that needle coke prices have decreased 6,000 yuan/ton this month to reach 36,000 yuan/ton; downstream users only make purchases as they need.
Since late September, Baosteel Chemical has cut calcined needle coke prices from 35,000 yuan/ton to 33,000 yuan/ton but raised green needle coke prices to 23,000 yuan/ton from 21,000 yuan/ton; the pitch coke prices are set at 21,000 yuan/ton and green coke at 9,500 yuan/ton which are both at tight supply.
Shandong Yida's needle coke project resumed operation on September 21. The plant registers a daily output of 150 tons, mainly composed of green needle coke; quoting prices dropped 13.7 percent to reach 25,000 yuan/ton from previous time, according to the person in charge.
The first phase of Shandong Jingyang Technology Co., Ltd's 50kt petroleum needle coke project was originally scheduled to start operation in early May. However, due to suspension on the issuing of approval for all chemical projects in the whole province since June, the company has to wait on the approval to start production which according to the person in charge, they will acquire after the 18th National Congress of CPC.
Shanxi Jinzhou Chemical's needle coke project has been in smooth progress since it was started. According to the person in charge, they are currently wrapping things up at the plant and the first batch of green coke products are expected to be available for customer test in two months.
The maintenance work on Shanxi Hongte Coal Chemical Industry Co., Ltd's 50kt needle coke production line continues to progress smoothly, which is expected to resume trial operation after the National day in October. It will produce a batch of pitch products first, and then move on to needle coke trial production after pitch products pass test.
Fangda C-Chem (Jiangsu) Needle Coke Technology Co., Ltd's needle coke facilities are still under intensive maintenance this week, which is expected to resume production after the National day with an estimated output of 1,500 tons for October. Products produced this year will only available for internal supply at a price only for this application. It is expected to return to 4,000-5,000 tons of production each month later in the year.
