ICC News: Needle coke market has been running steadily in February. Baosteel Chemical kicked off needle coke production this month, with output for February set to reach 5,000 tons. Right now, due to soaring raw material prices, needle coke prices stand at 5,000 yuan/mt and green coke prices 3,800 yuan/ton.
Jinzhou petrochemical maintain normal production this month. The monthly output of calcined petroleum coke is 3,000 tons, and that of green coke is 1,500 tons. Market prices are 4,200 yuan/mt.
Pingmei Anshan's coal needle coke production this month, with monthly output of needle coke at 2,000 tons and green coke at 2,500 tons.
On the import front, the import volume of ConocoPhillips' petroleum needle coke is estimated to hit 150,000 tons in 2017.
The exercise price for ConocoPhilips' needle coke is $580 per ton in the first half of the year, up $80 from previous period.
According to sources, right now the HNP and GHNP products continue to gain traction as HBA-1 is the only one overcoming hurdles in quick charge, which has led to a spike in order quantity.
HBA - 2 will make due contribution to the improvement in energy density (300 wh/kg) for power battery.
On coal needle coke import front, C-chem plans to supply customers with both imported products and products made in the country. Its prices haven't been released yet. Mitsubishi Chemical's total coal needle coke sales reached 8,000 tons last year, and the prices for 2017 haven't been formally announced either.
South Korea's PMC coal needle coke posted rapid growth thanks to its favorable price-performance ratio. Its product price for 2017 is set at $550 / ton on the market.
