August's petroleum coke market posts steady and improved performance: monthly report

ICC News: Domestic petroleum coke market overall was on a stable and upward growth trend in August. Some of major enterprises' refineries continued to offer significant discounts to customers purchasing in large quantities.
Meanwhile, local refinery market underwent V-shape performance and recorded mild rebound in the second half of August.
On low-sulphur petroleum coke market, little affected by negative factors of environmental protection concerns, both major enterprises and local refineries market held steady, showing no sign of sluggishness.
On medium-sulphur petroleum coke market, local refineries have began to pick up after hitting the bottom.
On high-sulphur petroleum coke market, environmental inspection continued to affect market transaction; refineries all look to achieve quicker turnover.
As of August 31, prevailing prices of 1#A are 1,000-1,100 yuan/mt; 1#B are 1000-1,050 yuan/mt; 2#A are 1,150 yuan/mt at Sinopec and 970-1,020 yuan/mt at local refineries; 2#B are 980-1,030 yuan/mt at Sinopec and 750-800 yuan/mt at local refineries; 3# are 820-900 yuan/mt at Sinopec and 620-700 yuan/mt at local refineries; 4#-5# are prevailingly 500-650 yuan/mt at Sinopec.
Shipment from major domestic ports this month stayed stable. As of late August, Rizhao Port carries 175kt of petroleum coke inventory, Fangcheng Port 170kt, Zhenjiang Port 280kt, Nanjing Port 150kt, Qinzhou Port 110kt, Nansha Port 85kt, Taizhou Port 30kt, Nantong Port 20kt, Longkou Port 20kt.
In August, only a limited number of calcined petroleum coke made adjustment. Henan market was basically at halt; Shandong's calcined petroleum coke market was extremely hot in the short term. The recovery of raw material petroleum coke has led to rise in the cost of calcined petroleum coke production, which however is not enough to push up the price of calcined petroleum coke. Most enterprises have always been giving precedence to the maintaining of regular customers.
