ICC News: Overall needle coke market continued to be sluggish in December. Specifically, affected by demand in graphite electrode market, Jinzhou Petrochemical and Baosteel Chemical are the only two major domestic enterprises maintaining operational during this month.
On the price side, as of this month, mainstay price at Jinzhou petrochemical was 4,300-4,400 yuan/ton and that of green coke is 3,500 yuan/ton; mainstay price at Baosteel Chemical was 4,000 yuan/ton.
Sinopec's needle coke project is running smoothly and has now reached the phase of industrial scale production. Since July when the production started, 3.5kt petroleum-based needle coke has been produced. Technical director of the project said needle coke produced meets all requirements on CTE, and it has officially kicked off promotion period.
According to information compiled by ICC News, currentl market price for mainstay green coke is 2300 yuan/mt including VAT, and favorable terms are offered for large quantities.
On the import market, for petroleum needle coke, offer price from Japan's Petrocokes Ltd is $1,300 (HSP $1,400), that from Phillips 66 is $800(HSP $850), and that from JX Holdings is $900.
For coal-based needle coke, offer price from SNC(Shin Nihon Chemicals Corporation) is $700, and that from Mitsubishi Chemical is $700.
