ICC News: In September, needle coke market continued to see sluggish performance in production with no improvement in sales as affected by weak downstream demand.
Specifically, Jinzhou Petrochemical is the only major enterprise that was in operation, while others all suspended their production.
Jinzhou Petrochemical maintained tine operation this week. Right now its monthly output is 3000t, and mainstay product price is 4,600 yuan/mt. Production at Baosteel Chemical was halted temporarily, its output during July and August totals 4500t, its mainstay market price is 4,300 yuan/mt.
Anshan Research Institute of Thermo-Energy suspended operation for maintenance during the summer, which is expected to resume operation in mid-October. It mainstay price is 5,200 yuan/mt.
Sinopec's needle coke project has been running smoothly and now has reached the stage of industrial production. Since the production started in July, 3500t petroleum-based needle coke has been produced. Technical director of the project said needle coke it produced meets all requirements of CTE, and it has officially kicked off production promotion period.
For updated information on Korea PMC's 60kt coal needle coke project, the plant has formally started to run, and pitch coke is expected to come out in October and go through a series of testing processes. Needle coke products will be rolled out in December at the earliest date.
Jiangsu-based C-Chem performed smoothly for the month, and the first small batch of products will be delivered to customers for trial use after the National Day holiday.
On the import market, customs statistics show China's coal-based needle coke imports totaled 1853 tons in August, 2015, up 58.11 percent year on year.
Main import source is Japan.
China's petroleum-based needle coke imports totaled 4,091 tons in August, 2015, up 78.72 percent year on year.
Major import source is British.
