Petroleum coke market monthly report（10.01-10.31）

Chinacarbon News: Petroleum coke market showed mixed trend in Oct after the long holiday. Prices at PetroChina and Sinopec, and other enterprises with main business in needle coke, are stable, with only very few ones recording slip in price; for example, PetroChina’s Karamay Petrochemical. Sinopec Shengli Petrochemical’s coking facilities are arranged for maintenance, making its supply rate for external market other than for its own use drop to 46.92%. In local refinery market, prices continue to drop, gradually widening gap of coke prices of same specifications compared to Sinopec. In mid and late October, overall transaction in petroleum coke market rebounded slightly from previous time, yet market situation is unlikely to show fundamental improvement. Sinopec lowered its listed prices for high-sulphur petroleum coke by 30-50 yuan/mt, mid- and low-sulphur petroleum coke by 80-130 yuan/mt, which are exactly the same as prices it used to listed on Sep. 30. After Sinopec’s price adjustment, 2#A petroleum coke are trade at 1,500-1,550 yuan/mt, 2#A petroleum coke 1,400-1,480 yuan/mt, 3#A petroleum coke 1,250-1,300 yuan/mt, high-sulphur petroleum coke 1,130-1,250 yuan/mt on the mainstream and 980-990 yuan/mt on the lower end. PetroChina and CNOOC kept prices stable at the time when Sinopec lowered the prices.
As regards calcined coke market, low-sulphur coke market remains stable, mid- and low-sulphur calcined coke market still appears sluggish while mid- and high-sulphur coke market continues to see decline in profit and the situation about production reduction didn’t turn better in October. Estimates show overall calcined coke market will predominately show slight downwards performance. As of now, in northeast region, mainstream trade prices for low-sulphur calcined coke are 2,350-2,650 yuan/mt on the lower end and 2,800-3,000 yuan/mt on the higher end; medium-sulphur calcined coke are 1,900-2,500 yuan/mt in north region and 1,800-2,300 yuan/mt in Shandong; high-sulphur calcined coke are 1,600-1,800 yuan/mt.
