ICC News: Needle coke market remained dull this month, and sales at all units with main operation in petroleum coke were not satisfactory.
Specifically, petroleum-based needle coke producer Jinzhou Petrochemical produces 2,500 tons for a month priced at 7,000yuan/mt now. With market demand standing low at present, it is unlikely to see capacity to go unleash and product prices are reaching close to cost line, said the person in charge of the company concerned about the market prospects.
Coal-based needle coke producer Anshan Thermo-Energy now produces 2,700 tons for a month with prices at 7,500 yuan/mt; Hongte Chemical's production line is now at halt and they mainly operate on de-stocking with prevailing quoting prices ranging from 7,000-7,500 yuan/mt.
On the Overseas market, petroleum needle coke prices for 2014 has just settled down preliminarily. ConocoPhillips' needle coke for body parts is 1,350 US dollars and that for nipple is 1,550 US dollars. Meanwhile coal-based needle coke prices have yet been decided yet.
But still, needle coke prices have dropped from the same period last year as domestic electrode enterprises and overseas needle coke enterprises are still in fulfillment of the contract signed this year along with constant price pushdown from graphite electrode as burdened by its downstream performances.
