ICC News: Needle coke market performs steadily this February, a month the Spring Festival holiday had fallen in. After the holiday, purchases from downstream dipped, although all units with main business in petroleum coke run operation in normal manner. Petroleum-based needle coke producer Jinzhou Petrochemical now maintains a monthly output of 2,400 tons of petroleum coke priced at 9,000 yuan/mt. As regards coal-based needle coke, Anshan Research Institute of Thermo-energy (ARIT) maintains production of 1,500-2,000 tons per month, priced at around 8,000 yuan/mt, a majority of which are for self-use purpose. Shanxi Hongte Chemical now has a monthly output of 4,000 tons, priced at 8,500 tons, among which, 2,000 tons are sold in the market and other 2,000 tons are used by themselves. In overseas market, needle coke prices were lowered for a short while due to active purchases from downstream enterprises before the holiday. Since entering mid-Feb, the prices have returned to its previous levels. As overseas needle coke prices for 2013 have yet official revealed, cautions have been exercised towards the pricing of needle coke in China’s market.
