ICC News: This month, domestic needle coke market performs in weak situation. On the domestic market front, sources from Jinzhou Petrochemical show the firm has resumed operation in mid-December, with price maintaining at 9,000 tons/mt. Coal-based needle coke maker Shanxi Hongte Chemical recorded operation in good condition with a monthly output of 2,000-3,000 tons. Operation at Anshan steel is at normal pace, with a monthly output of 4,000 tons. In overseas market, operating rate in overseas needle coke business stands less than 70 percent due to overall steel market downturn. Prices for both coal-based and petroleum-based needle coke have dropped as a result of attempt to reduce inventories. At present, ConocoPhillips needle cokes are US $2,100 for each ton. Mizushima needle cokes are US $2,100 for each ton. Mitsubishi chemical and Nippon Steel place the quotes at US $1,600 per ton.
