Chinacarbon news: Domestic needle coke market saw demand went up in June from that in previous several months. This month Jinzhou Petrochemical restored the production of petroleum-based needle coke which currently has zero inventory, and prices remained at around 9,000 yuan/mt. Sinosteel Anshan Thermo-energy’s coal-based needle coke reported volatility in production due to internal factors; prices remained at 10,000 yuan/mt despite supply shortage as a result of declining output. Hongte Chemical reported operation on regular basis with a monthly output of 3,000-4,000 tons or so and sales price of 10,000 yuan/mt. On the imports front, imports figures in early Q2 showed needle coke imports expanded more than 200%, suggesting China’s graphite electrode enterprises increased needle coke imports dramatically in April after they have used up previously stocks. As end market remains in sluggishness and carbon enterprises as a result make purchases in accordance with actual needs, needle coke market is forecasted to remain stable in the short term.
