Chinacarbon news: This month, domestic needle coke market remained running steadily. In needle coke imports market, Customs statistics in February showed petroleum-based needle coke imports dropped to 1,434 tons, down by 67.5% from 4,414 tons in January; coal-based needle coke dipped to 1,561 tons, down by 60.4% from 3,945 tons in January. Abovementioned figures indicated domestic graphite electrode market is still stuck in sluggish situation. At present, pricing for graphite electrode for April hasn’t been revealed yet. Electrode producers, however, indicated reducing inventory is their top priority at the moment as a result of unsatisfactory performance in March despite that some of the enterprises noted they will raise to some extent electrode prices following price rise in raw material needle coke. Hence, producers are facing a number of obstacles in terms of raising price, making it unclear just yet to determine if the second quarter will become a turning point for market performance. Electrode producers are still in wait-and-see mode, and market will mostly remain stable in the short term.

Zaozhuang Coal Mining Group's Coal Chemical Institute is going smoothly with coal-based needle coke project. Equipment installation will start by May, and the commissioning will be conducted in October with a trail production of around 300 metric tons.
The signing ceremony of coal-based needle coke technology cooparation agreement between China Pingmei Shenma Group and Sinosteel Corporation was held in Shoushan Coking Company.As per the agreement, both sides will join hands to launch a world's advanced 80,000t.a high-quality needle coke project. The project looks to change the situation of long-term dependence on import in China, and to shape a complete industrial chain for Pingmei Shenma Group's coal chemical section to include coke, tar deep processing, needle coke and carbon products based on coal resources.
